Overview

This course explores advanced Python concepts, with a strong focus on backend development, modern AI integration, and practical deployment skills. Students begin by deepening their understanding of Python internals, concurrency, and asynchronous programming. Building on this foundation, the course introduces FastAPI for modern web services, database integration, and design patterns for scalable systems.

Learning highlights

  • Grasp Python internals, concurrency, and async programming
  • Build modern APIs with FastAPI and database integration
  • Apply design patterns and clean architecture in Python projects
  • Deploy with Docker and set up basic CI/CD pipelines
  • Implement logging, monitoring, and observability
  • Integrate AI agents into backends
  • Use Python for data analysis and scientific computing
  • Deliver a complete backend project from design to deployment

Methodology

Students will learn through a combination of lectures and practical work. A course project will run throughout most of the programme. At the end of each session, time will be allocated for me to support students in progressing with their projects. Topics that are not covered within the project will be practised through homework assignments.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
20% - Homework
80% - Final Project
