Overview

Cloud technologies have become increasingly prevalent in the business world, providing companies with the opportunity to deploy products and infrastructure with greater speed and scalability than ever before. However, clouds bring new security risks, threats, and tools that organisations must be prepared to tackle

Why is cloud security so different from “in-house” infrastructure and product security? How does cloud migration impact security risks? In this class, we get to know cloud technologies from a security point of view, and students will learn how to assess security risks and how to protect our products and infrastructure in clouds.

Learning highlights

  • Assess cloud infrastructure/product security posture.
  • Build cloud specific threat models for products or organisations
  • Use cloud provided security tools to protect your cloud assets.
  • Provide security guidance for cloud migration and cloud-native application design.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge about cloud technologies.

Basic information security knowledge.

Methodology

All sessions are interactive lectures that combine theory with practice. During the session, students will have a chance to try out the techniques they have learned in a personal environment.

Tests are given in the form of 'scenarios', an approximation of real-world problems, and during assignments, students will have to analyse a given target and specify a set of actions. The theoretical part is also covered with tests.

At the beginning of the module, students will be given a set of possible projects, and by the end of the first week, they will have to choose one, which will be their course project assignment. At the final exam, students will present their projects and review a project by a different student or group.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
30% - Quizzes
30% - Individual assignments
40% - Final project
