Overview

The Linear Algebra I course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of linear algebra. The course covers linear spaces and linear operators. Students not only become familiar with these objects but also learn their geometric interpretation and how to perform computations with them. Along with the Linear Algebra - 2 course, this course provides the language and tools for solving applied problems in various areas, from game development to fintech, particularly in machine learning.

Learning highlights

  • Understand and apply the main concepts of linear algebra.
  • Solve problems in linear algebra both manually and using special computational tools.
  • Deeply understand matrices not only as tables of numbers but also as elements of a linear space, linear transformations, and bilinear functions, and use the properties of these objects to effectively solve problems involving matrices.

Methodology

The typical 3-hour session consists of a lecture that will provide the necessary theory to later work on the practical part, a problem-solving session, and a short test on the previous session. In-depth understanding of the course is achieved through problem solving, both in class and at home. Homework provides students with more practical problems for a better understanding of the course.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
60% - In-class tests
15% - Graded home assignments
10% - Midterm
15% - Final exam
