Overview

In this class, we’ll explore the powerful combination of buyer psychology and marketing automation. Students will learn to design and build best-in-class automated customer journeys, with insights from neuroscience and practical applications of content and marketing automation strategy.

To start we’ll look at how the brain makes purchase decisions, how bias affects how we consume marketing and how we can cater for both to increase conversions. We’ll cover crafting the customer journey in your automation system, and the key campaigns and funnels that all businesses must have in place. We’ll also learn how to flesh the process out with the right content, how to profile and segment audiences, how to collect and report on data and more.

Learning highlights

  • Gain in-depth understanding of purchase behaviour in marketing, and use this understanding to increase lead quality, engagement, conversion rates and customer lifetime value.
  • Learn how to map the customer journey for marketing automation, with deep dives into campaigns for every part of the process.
  • Discover how to plan for content within your marketing automation, and how to use this content to segment and enhance conversion rates.
  • Understand progressive profiling and how to plan segmentation and engagement strategies around content distribution.
  • Clarify data and reporting, with insights on how to build your campaigns with a data first approach.
  • Work though real life campaigns for practical application of all strategies.

Final Presentations

Prerequisites

NA - only an understanding of what marketing is broadly.

Methodology

Students will learn via lectures, exercises and a combination of group/ individual work. Grades will be determined by presentations and the individual and group work.

Each class will begin with a lecture, then a discussion of the lecture content. In relevant lectures there will be exercise breakouts where students can apply their learning. Their final presentation will be set in the beginning of the course: to design a customer journey, with relevant campaigns planned and strategies outlined. Exercises will work towards this final project. And grading will take into consideration their exercise work and their final presentation.

The course is roughly split into three sections: Behaviour - an overview of the neuroscience behind the purchase process and how this and cognitive bias affects interactions with marketing automation content. The Customer Journey - using life cycle marketing to plan and execute a behavioural customer journey and it’s relevant campaigns. Content and Segmentation - how content is pivotal to the success of marketing automation and how to plan for the engagement of this content so that you’re learning about your audience and using this understanding to increase conversion rates These 3 areas will help student understand the why, how and what behind best-in-class marketing automation journeys. The course will be practical so that students can apply this to a project and know how to implement this immediately.

Grading

The final grade will be composed of the following criteria:
15% - Group Work
35% - Exercises (individual work)
50% - Final Project
